MLR, LLC filed a complaint against Sony Electronics Inc. for Patent Infringement

MLR complains Sony Electronics Inc.has infringed and continues to infringe MLR's patents in the products including Wi-Fi enabled, broadband-capable portable computers and laptop computers.

Patents in the case:
US7,343,173, title “Tiered wireless, multi-modal access system and method”
US6,934,558: title “Adaptive omni-modal radio apparatus and methods”
US6,134,453: title “Adaptive omni-modal radio apparatus and methods”
US7,386,322: title “Adaptive omni-modal radio apparatus and methods”
US6,961,584: title “Tiered wireless, multi-modal access system and method"

US7,343,173 has 9 patent family members but no any equivalent Japanese patent applications, which means Japanese prior art has probably never been searched. Based on our own experience, if a target patent does not have an equivalent Japanese patent application, Japanese prior art sources such as JPO documents and Japanese non-patent literature have probably not been looked during the examination. The likelihood of uncovering pertinent prior art in Japanese is higher than those which have corresponding JP applications.

Suggestion for the defending attorney: get a prior art search firm which can search full text document in Japanese to conduct a thorough patent search (validity search). F-term and FI classification searches should also been included.
